Swapnadeep - A Ray of Schooling

Faith Sprout Preschool – Building strong Foundation

Introduction

Faithsprout Preschool is a key program of the Swandeep—A Ray of School initiative by the Adgulsa Welfare Foundation. It targets children aged 3 to 6 from rural and underprivileged areas of Jharkhand. The program meets the crucial need for early childhood education, especially in socio-economically marginalised communities, where such foundational learning remains largely inaccessible.

Context and Need in Jharkhand

According to the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) for 2021–22, only 54.6% of children aged 3 to 6 are enrolled in preschool programs in Jharkhand. Furthermore, the state has a 26% dropout rate before completing primary education. As per the NITI Aayog’s Multidimensional Poverty Index (2021), 36.9% of Jharkhand’s population lives below the poverty line. The National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5) reports that 39.6% of children under the age of five are stunted, indicating chronic undernutrition. These indicators highlight a significant gap in early education, nutrition, and health interventions for children in the state.

Program Implementation

Faithsprout operates through localised preschool centres established in Ranchi and Bano, Jharkhand (We plan to expand it further). Teachers are selected from within the community. The program employs a play-based, bilingual (Hindi and English) curriculum integrating core values with basic literacy and numeracy. Daily sessions include nutrition support, hygiene awareness, and basic healthcare checks. Parent involvement is encouraged through scheduled home visits. Spiritual learning through stories, music, and values-based activities is embedded in the curriculum to promote holistic development.

Objectives and Expected Outcomes

Faithsprout’s purpose is to increase school readiness and reduce primary-level dropout rates. Through its holistic approach, the program enhances physical health, cognitive development, and social skills. Employing and training rural women as educators also contributes to job creation. Most importantly, Faithsprout is vital in building faith-filled families and resilient communities where the light of education reaches every corner.

Why This Works in Jharkhand

In regions where formal preschooling is either unavailable or unaffordable, community-based models like Faithsprout are essential. The model becomes effective and sustainable by using local resources, respecting cultural practices, and including families in the process. The inclusion of nutrition and values-based learning further enriches the experience and outcomes, especially for vulnerable and malnourished children.

Conclusion

Faithsprout Preschool is not just a classroom but a space of nurture, growth, and transformation. Through this humble but powerful initiative, Adgulsa Welfare Foundation is building strong foundations for a better tomorrow, one child at a time.
